THE RIGHT HEADBOARD

CHOOSING THE RIGHT HEADBOARD: A GUIDE

One of the most important decisions to be made when purchasing a bespoke product involves choosing the right material. We have a fabulous range of fabrics ready to customise your headboard. From British wools and velvets to some simpler, more manageable materials like linens.

It is also necessary to consider what type of headboard is right for your personal needs. Making a decision on material for instance. If you enjoy sitting up in bed reading or watching television, we would recommend a padded or upholstered headboard for extra comfort. It is also worth noting that a darker fabric or print will work well to hide and disguise any marks. Whereas a lighter fabric is likely to highlight flaws and damages as time goes by.

If planning from scratch, it is a good idea to purchase a bed with the headboard attached to a base. That way, there is a guarantee that the fabric and colour scheme will be consistent across the whole piece. However, remember that any adjustments made to the design scheme may mean that your choice is limited in this circumstance. Which will force you to change the bed as well as the headboard if you fancy a new look! On the plus side, choosing a headboard for a divan bed leaves you spoilt for choice. And is easy to change if your mind is restless and often wanders to consider different design ideas.

Creating a Centre-Piece

If you are feeling bold, go for a large headboard that dominates the space. Creating a main focal point for the room. However, make sure that you leave the room’s dimensions at the forefront of your mind. A large headboard in a room that cannot visually support it seems to swallow up heaps of space.  Be sure to take the height of the ceilings into account too as they are a direct contributor to spaciousness. If your bedroom ceiling is low, stick to low headboards that doesn’t dominate the entire height of the wall.  Remember that a smaller headboard can leave room for stylish decoration elsewhere… Wall hangings, art prints, it remains the perfect option for children who do not require such a significant backdrop.

Think about the style of the room and what you want it to achieve. If you are aiming for a romantic, airy atmosphere why not choose soft curves and a lighter fabric. For a masculine room, a sleigh headboard with a rich wool or velvet would work perfectly. An upholstered or tufted headboard would create an air of feminine sophistication with ease.
