STUBBORN STAINS

Remove Stains

RED WINE

And so we start with the most feared of all stains; red wine. Immediately after spillage, blot the stain to soak up any moisture. Then combine a tablespoon of white vinegar, some liquid washing-up soap and roughly two cups of water. Submerge a clean cloth into your homemade solution and sponge the stain gently to remove.

CHOCOLATE

Chocolate seems fitting as our second stubborn stain removal tip, as it often accompanies that large glass of red wine. Add a few drops of liquid washing-up soap to a small bowl filled with cold water. Use a clean cloth to dampen the stain, starting from the outer edge and slowly working your way to the middle. Gently rub until the stain begins to lighten. Next, rinse the solution from the sofa by wiping with a different, clean and damp cloth. Finally, wipe it with a dry towel to remove excess moisture and to avoid discolouration.

URINE

Believe it or not, urine is one of the most common sofa stains, and whether it belongs to your pet or your toddler it comes third on our list of stubborn stains. First off, combine water and vinegar to create a homemade solution, then spray a small amount of this solution over the affected area. This will help remove the stain as well as getting rid of the ghastly stench. Next, sprinkle a small amount of bicarbonate of soda over the urine patch, this helps to absorb the moisture. Finally, after 20 minutes vacuum the affected area.

PEN INK

For this stubborn stain, you will need to gently apply some rubbing alcohol to a clean, dry cloth. You must not directly pour the alcohol on the stain as this may cause discolouration or could misshape your sofa. We also advise you to test this on an inconspicuous area of your sofa first. Simply dab the cloth around the stain. Next, grab another clean cloth, dip in water and simply wipe the area. Finally, pat gently with a dry towel.

BLOOD

To easily remove any bloodstains, add one teaspoon of salt to a bowl of cold water. Proceed to dab the bloodstain with the solution, allowing the mixture to work into the fabric. Let it sit for around half an hour. Once soaked, use a soft brush to scrub and watch as the murder scene completely disappears.

GREASE

Cover the affected area with either talcum powder or bicarbonate of soda. Make sure the powder covers the whole stain and leave for around half an hour – helping to absorb some of the grease. After 30 minutes vacuum the powder.

Don’t forget we’d always recommend you test any of these treatments on an inconspicuous area first of all or alternatively, to save all the hassle, you can choose to purchase one of our cheap, fabric or leather cleaning kits.
